I must admit I am quite
addicted to the television programme First Dates. In my defence this has been from the very
beginning, and, not since the maitre d, and, waitresses themselves have become
media stars in their own rights. I was
quite surprised to see Fred Sirieix, and, Cici Coleman on the political show “This
Week”, although in fairness they both came across very well, even though all
the “clap trap” Fred spouts during the First Dates shows really grates on me,
and, in fairness detracts from the overall quality. I’m sure looking back to the earlier series
we were not subjected to the musings of the maitre d. It’s almost like they are trying to brain wash
the audience.
Although there have been
many excellent dates over the series, one of the stand out moments for me was Lucy
and Caroline in series four, episode 5.
I have this episode on my Sky box, and, have to admit to watching it
over and over. They just seem to get on
so well, and, appear to be so well matched.
Watching their date progress actually brings a tear to my eye and makes
me feel sad, as it just seems like I will never find the sort of chemistry they
experienced in such a short timescale in my entire life. I often wonder how their relationship
fared. I was very disappointed that they
did not feature on the end of the series round up called “First Dates: The
Proposal”. I hope that the fact they did
not appear means that there relationship just fizzled out.
I would love to take part in
the series, but have to confess in not having the guts to apply. I know that I would just crash and burn. I’m not a person who is fluent in normal
conversation. My ideal date is more like
a few bottles of wine just to ease the way.
At my age now, and, with my personality traits I am not one who has a
map of how my life will be. It always
surprises me when women (although men do it as well), have a life plan about
marriage and children. I am more of a
person to see how it goes, although that could easily account for where I am
today, and, I suppose be my downfall.
Following the popularity of
the programme I thought that more “dating” sites would have popped up where
they try and match people on a dinner date theme. Each couple could then after the date upload
a short video to tell everyone how it had gone.
It would be like a constant reality show on the web. Perhaps it is something I should look into
and develop?
