Stop the world I want to get off

I thought I would add an entertaining title to my blog post this time in the desperate hope it may attract more readers.  Maybe I can go from zero views to that all elusive one!

It may sound somewhat ironic that I take my pen to write about this subject, especially as if you are the one reader, you will be viewing the blog on some sort of electronic device.  The post today is about my wish to dump the internet!

I have over the past month or so pondered whether to stop subscribing to the internet and my mobile phone.  I can’t deny that they are very useful, but they do make my life somewhat more agitated.

One of the horrible things is that it seems like everything has got so complicated.  For instance when searching for something you think is relatively simple, the first thing you are confronted with are the sponsored websites, followed by an absolute myriad of other drivel that has managed to work its’ way up the search order by cleverly structuring the site to be high ranking.  Then if you click on a site you may be confronted with a screen requiring you to input your email address, and, given the amount of spam that is now emailed daily this immediately puts you off unless you wish to be more overloaded with rubbish than you already are.  So instead of being able to find some useful information, all you have achieved is nothing and wasted a lot of time.

Viruses also give me cause for concern.  They are not something I completely understand, other than that I wish to avoid them, and, I always have in the back of my mind that they could lead to identity fraud, or, strip me of the one pound I have in my savings account.  Clicking a link may lead to such bad things happening.  I thus have antivirus software on my computer, and, phone, which inevitably lead to them running slower, hence everything taking longer.

I find it strange given the fact that we are told not to click on links, that if you receive marketing email, you have to click on a link to unsubscribe.  This means you get caught in a viscous circle, for one you are sick of the junk email, and, two you dare not click on the link for fear of either unleashing even more junk mail, or getting a virus.  How strange is that?

I also feel that programs and applications nowadays are terribly complicated.  It almost seems like you have to be educated to PHD level in order to operate them.  They seem to have so many variations and options that it just feels so confusing to me.  I just want something simple!

At one time of day I would have been all over the internet and programs like a rash (obviously when I was a young lad, a very long time ago I hasten to add).  Is it now a case that I am just too old?  Have I identified a gap in the market?  The internet kept simple.  Nothing complicated.
